Together we can invest in the character of Canton.
Pequitside Farm
Over the years, residents of Canton have proactively worked to create a town that offers a high quality of life. Our schools place in the top 50, we have beautiful open spaces, many recreational resources and protected historic sites. Downtown Canton is increasingly vibrant.
These are the things that build the character of our community.
Yet with increasingly tight municipal budgets, these assets are harder to protect and grow without compromising their integrity.
By voting YES on Question 4 on November 6, we have the opportunity to continue our investment. A modest 1% surcharge on property taxes you currently pay (just $42 a year for the average Canton household), will generate over $450,000 each year for our parks, playgrounds, fields, historic gems and open spaces. PLUS, CPA dollars -- that automatically deliver matching funds from the state -- can be used to pay for certain foreseeable town expenses that will have to be incurred in any event, thus relieving pressure on our town budget.
Low and moderate income seniors are exempt from the surcharge, as well as low income households.
A diverse group of Canton residents make up Voters for the Preservation of Canton, supporting the passage of Question 4. The committee is chaired by Deb Sundin, who is also the chair of the Conservation Commission.
